Sexually transmitted diseases are also called as STD or STI (Sexually transmitted infections). These diseases are transmitted from one person to other through sexual contact. Adolescents and young adults are the age groups at the greatest risk for acquiring an STD. STD can have serious consequences, especially in woman, if not treated, which is why it is so important to go for STD testing. STD can be prevented by refraining from sexual activity, and to a certain extent, some contraceptive devices, such as condoms.

 Sexual transmitted diseases are the menace for the woman in the present time. The menace is raising its ugly head in every part of the world partly on account of ignorance and partly on account risky sexual behavior of the woman. In the studies being carried out and it is found that woman is at the receiving end of the sexual diseases. Earlier it was thought of that the women are in the lower risk category but studies in the subject have come out with the startling revelation. 

A study has been carried out about the sexual history of the female military recruits in the U.S. The studies being carried out and it was found that woman because of the causal sex session with the fellow colleagues were infected for the sexually transmitted diseases. They were given the treatments and a counseling session was given to them. But in-spite of the this when they were again tested for the STD, large number of female were infected, it clearly shows that efforts was required on much larger scale.

 It was also come in the lime light that female are not telling the right information by giving the false information in the questionnaire and hence, the things on paper and behavior are quite different. They were again given the counseling session and treatment. As there are many sexual disease for which there are treatment available but there are no cure for these diseases. Therefore, effort has to be made by the individual person themselves by not indulging in the casual sex practice.

 There are many sexually transmitted diseases and they are as under:

Human Papilloma Virus-It is thought to be one of the main causes of cervical cancer. It has been linked with other types of cancers of the female reproductive system. There is no cure available currently but it can be treated.

Herpes Virus-It has also no cure presently. However, treatment is available. Symptoms include the blisters or sores which break out on the genital periodically.

Hepatitis-Although there is no cure available but it can be prevented from passage. Those who suffer from Hepatitis B symptoms may have unpleasant discomforts.

HIV/AIDS-This is the one of the deadliest STD people are worried world wide for getting the HIV. While new of treating the infection can significantly prolong an infected person’s life but eventually it progresses to AIDS and, ultimately, death. Best way to combat it is the HIV testing for early detection and early treatment for prolonging life.

Syphilis-Syphilis can now be easily treated and cured. However, without treatment, syphilis symptoms can progress and affect the nervous system and brain leading to dementia and even death.

Trichomoniasis-It is curable but often the vaginal discharge is wrongly identified for yeast infection and hence the wrong treatment.

Common Infections-Chlamydia and Gonorrhea often infect a person at the same time. Though symptoms are different. Both of these STD are curable, but if left untreated can also damage the reproductive system.

Public Lice-A very common STD, crabs are very similar to head lice. Treatment is available as treatment is hard to miss to the itchy symptoms at the public place.

Rare Infections-Some STDs like Granuloma Inguinale, Chancroid, Nongonococcal urethritis, molluscum contagiosum, and lymphogranuloma verereum
