All of us want to be energetic, youthful and free of diseases and most   of us believe that energy of food is the same as energy in the human body. As a consequence, we eat high calorie foods in the mistaken belief that the high calories will release a lot of energy in the body. But before you get confused, a few terminologies need to be elucidated.

The food is completely combusted and the heat produced in terms of joules and labeled in calories from foods. This is a very basic method of calculation which does not take into account the food behavior during the process of digestion in different genetic types.

The food that are low calories are sugar, fruits, salads, fruits juices, vegetables, all artificial  sweeteners, all processed foods which are fat free (but high in sugar) and all low aerated drinks .Moderate calorie foods are corn flour, breads, wheat ,rice. High calorie foods are fats, oils, nuts, oilseeds, and processed foods with high fats .

For many  years, Tea and coffee with sugar was labeled as a 20 calorie drink and hence forth in the realm of low calorie foods but sugar can fatten many of us quickly! Energy is the term used very vaguely in the publications .It could mean something similar to calories or something in line with the human energy we are supposed to feel. In case it is written as calorie of foods, it means it has the same errors but in case it means the energy one is supposed to feel after eating food, it is heavily dependent on the post digestive effects of foods.

Milk for many people is a healthy drink which makes them feel energetic after drinking it and yet many others complain that it makes them feel heavy ,sluggish and bloated .Similarly ,many people relish a well –made salad but others  complain that it gives them gas and acidity. Many people feel very energetic after drinking a fruit juice or an aerated drink. Therefore ,in all fairness, energy can be described as the immediate and short term subjective feeling of energy which does not last long.

Now the most important term is vitality. This is the ling term energy ,freshness ,youth like appearance , which we all ultimate desire. But it depends on many factors, for example–foods which do not have chemicals and pesticides, or are made fresh and eaten fresh, cooked the right way and foods which are eaten according to the individual constitution.
